Located in west-central Colorado, Cedaredge is a
little town with lots to do. As the gateway to the
Grand Mesa, Cedaredge is a great place to hang
out if you want to check out the world's largest flattop
mountain. The section of Colorado 65, which
runs north from Cedaredge through the town of Mesa
and on to Interstate 70, is known as The Grand Mesa
Scenic Byway. From this byway, sightseers can take in
spectacular panoramic views and outdoor recreationalists
can bask in the 53 square-mile lush wilderness,
garnished with over 300 high altitude lakes. Indulge
in fishing, hunting, camping, biking in summer and
Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in winter.
Back in town, visitors to Cedaredge must take a walk
through Pioneer Town and get a taste for those old
frontier days. Pioneer town is operated and maintained
by the Surface Creek Valley Historical Society.
All of the structures in the five-and-a-half-acre village
are original restorations, or authentic replicas. Stop
by the general store, mercantile, bank, marshal's
office, toy shop, school house, jail house, barber shop
and working blacksmith shop as you stroll along the
wooden sidewalks.
Cedaredge also has a number of incredible art galleries,
ideal for buying gifts or just browsing. If you're
in town the first weekend in October, make sure to
stick around for the AppleFest. The annual harvest
festival is always celebrated in the middle of downtown.
Festivities include, art shows, a scarecrow contest,
antique tractor show, classic car show, arts and
crafts booths, live music and entertainment, baking
contests, wine, food and tons of juicy apples. |
