Please your senses and your family in one place. The Great Pagosa
Hot Springs, known to the Ute Indians as"Pagosah" interpreted
to mean "boiling water" or "healing water,"
was the site of numerous Native American wars and skirmishes. The
naturally therapeutic value of the springs and the importance of
their healing powers have made this location desirable for centuries.
The clean air, relaxed lifestyle and "healing waters" of the Great Pagosa Hot Springs may be what draws visitors in, but
an overwhelming array of activities in and around Pagosa Springs
make it a place worth coming back to again and again.
Golfers can play on one of the Four Corner's beautiful 27-hole
championship golf courses, while boating, rafting and fishing are
just a short drive out of town. Those interested in archaeological
ruins can choose from Chimney Rock, Mesa Verde, Hovenweep and Canyons
of the Ancients to experience a taste of American Indian folklore.
Museums and wildlife parks; hiking and biking trails; hot air ballooning;
shopping; and galleries give Pagosa Springs its playful attitude.
If hunting is your sport, herds of elk and deer surround Pagosa
Springs in bountiful numbers. And with a claim of "the most
snow in Colorado"; Wolf Creek, Pagosa's ski area, makes for
a perfect winter destination. Of course, no visit to Pagosa Springs
is complete without a relaxing soak at one of the town's hot springs
spas. Situated along the banks of the San Juan River, surrounded
by blue mountain lakes and dramatic San Juan Mountain peaks, Pagosa
Springs remains a magical place for all who visit.
